Shared Collection Service Bus (SCSB)

Seamless and Quick sharing of research collections

HTC’s connected platform enables sharing research materials to global libraries through interlibrary loan

THE CLIENT

The client operates the world’s largest library, archive preservation repository having close to 20,000,000 research collections of their member/partner libraries, and shares it with researchers. They also provide the printed and digital versions of these materials to their member/partner libraries and to other libraries around the world through interlibrary loan.

THE CHALLENGE

The primary challenges of the project was to:

• Transform the nature of the client’s partnership with other libraries around the world from joint operations of a shared facility to cooperative stewardship of a shared collection
• Allow discovery-to-delivery by real-time integration with partner institutions’ library systems and library discovery services
• Create tools and methods that can support the development of cooperative collection strategies nationwide
