ServiceNow Software Engineer – Enterprise Architecture & Application Portfolio Management

Overview

We are seeking a Software Engineer with strong expertise in ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture, with a focus on Business Application Lifecycle Management (BALM). This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing application lifecycle strategies that improve visibility, governance, and optimization across the enterprise application portfolio.

The ideal candidate has a strong ServiceNow technical background, a systems-thinking approach, and the ability to translate enterprise architecture strategies into scalable platform solutions. Experience with front-end development is a plus.

Work Location: Remote (Local candidates preferred for occasional onsite collaboration.)

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement Business Application Lifecycle Management (BALM) capabilities within ServiceNow.
  • Configure and extend ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture modules, including Application Portfolio Management (APM), CMDB, and ITBM/SPM.
  • Define and maintain application lifecycle states, standards, and governance models.
  • Integrate ServiceNow with upstream and downstream systems to support accurate lifecycle data.
  • Partner with enterprise architects, product teams, and business stakeholders to identify application rationalization opportunities.
  • Develop dashboards and reporting for application health, cost, usage, and lifecycle management.
  • Automate lifecycle workflows, including application onboarding, assessment, modernization, and retirement.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency within CMDB and application portfolio records.
  • Contribute to platform scalability, performance optimization, and ServiceNow best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3–6+ years of ServiceNow development or platform engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience with ServiceNow Enterprise Architecture and/or Application Portfolio Management (APM).
  • Strong knowledge of Business Application Lifecycle Management (BALM) concepts and implementation.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript and ServiceNow scripting, including Glide APIs.
  • Experience with ServiceNow platform configuration and customization.
  • Experience with front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and one or more frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js.
  • Knowledge of application portfolio governance, lifecycle management, and rationalization methodologies.
  • Experience working with CMDB, data modeling, and service mapping.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ServiceNow certifications such as CSA, CAD, APM, or Enterprise Architecture.
  • Experience with UX/UI best practices for ServiceNow applications and dashboards.
  • Experience with API integrations, microservices, or cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
  • Familiarity with Agile delivery methodologies and product-centric operating models.
