Systems Software Developer – Automotive Systems Engineering

Overview

We are seeking a Systems Software Developer to support the design, development, testing, and deployment of system-level software features. This role involves working across hardware and software domains to develop feature systems from concept through production while collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of system-level features from early development through production, including feature upgrades and migration planning.
  • Design high-level network, wiring, and power distribution topologies, schematics, and block diagrams.
  • Allocate features and functions to meet cost, quality, and performance targets.
  • Develop feature, functional, and implementation specifications.
  • Create Failure Mode Avoidance documentation, feature verification plans, functional safety assessments, and cybersecurity assessments.
  • Develop, test, and deploy technical solutions for endpoint hardware and software while ensuring compatibility with existing systems.
  • Design feature systems using Model-Based Systems Engineering and software development tools, including Python, C++, and software requirement tools such as Gherkin.
  • Review existing system designs to identify opportunities for quality and cost improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and product teams to develop balanced technical solutions.
  • Analyze complex systems and implement innovative solutions.
  • Lead technical trade-off discussions across multiple functional teams.
  • Communicate complex technical issues and resolutions effectively.
  • Apply data analytics to improve system understanding and support feature development.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies through collaboration with engineering teams and external partners.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, preferably within the automotive industry.
  • 3+ years of Software Engineering experience.
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with Python.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle processes.
  • Experience writing technical specifications, functional requirements, verification plans, and Failure Mode Avoidance documentation.
  • Experience with functional safety and cybersecurity assessments.
  • Understanding of vehicle electrical systems, networking, wiring, power distribution, body systems, or chassis systems.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to resolve software issues and CAN communication challenges.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of automotive engineering experience.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering V-Model.
  • Knowledge of DFMEA, Boundary Diagrams, and Special Characteristics documentation.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and supporting software applications.
  • Experience progressing customer use cases through design, architecture, development, testing, and integration.
  • Electrical design and release (D&R) or electrical testing experience.
  • Experience with GitHub.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams.
