Job Title: Senior Atlassian Systems Engineer – Jira & Confluence

Position Overview

Work at enterprise scale supporting and optimizing critical Jira and Confluence environments used by thousands of users. This role combines deep Atlassian administration with workflow optimization, automation, integrations, troubleshooting, and collaboration with technical and business teams to build scalable solutions and improve how teams use the Atlassian platform.

The role serves as a subject matter expert for Jira and Confluence while helping establish consistent processes, governance, automation, and best practices across teams.

What You'll Do

  • Administer, configure, maintain, and support Jira and Confluence environments.

  • Manage Jira workflows, workflow schemes, screen schemes, custom fields, permissions, notifications, automations, and JQL.

  • Support enterprise teams using Jira to manage projects, workflows, and business processes.

  • Administer Confluence spaces, permissions, configurations, and related functionality.

  • Partner with business and technical teams to understand requirements and develop solutions using Jira and Confluence.

  • Evaluate and optimize Jira and Confluence configurations, workflows, and processes to improve efficiency and usability.

  • Identify opportunities for automation and process standardization across teams.

  • Install, configure, administer, and upgrade Atlassian Marketplace applications and plugins.

  • Troubleshoot complex Jira and Confluence issues and coordinate escalations with Atlassian or third-party support when necessary.

  • Analyze upstream and downstream system impacts when implementing platform changes and integrations.

  • Develop and maintain scripts and automation using Python and/or Groovy.

  • Work with REST APIs and JSON to support integrations and automation.

  • Research new Atlassian capabilities, features, releases, and applications and recommend improvements where appropriate.

  • Maintain technical documentation covering platform configurations, workflows, automations, integrations, and support processes.

  • Develop user guides, training materials, and best practices for Jira and Confluence users.

  • Conduct end-user training on Jira, Confluence, new functionality, and established processes.

  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams on maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrades, and platform improvements.

  • Support production deployments and platform changes during scheduled maintenance windows.

  • Help establish consistent Jira processes and governance across teams.

  • Provide a high level of customer service while building strong relationships with technical and business stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience administering Atlassian products, with a strong focus on Jira administration.

  • Hands-on experience supporting a large-scale Atlassian environment with thousands of users.

  • Strong experience with Jira Cloud administration and configuration.

  • Proficient in Confluence administration and space configuration.

  • Deep knowledge of Jira workflows, workflow schemes, JQL, permissions, custom fields, screen schemes, and notifications.

  • Strong understanding of Jira automation and workflow optimization.

  • Experience administering and supporting Atlassian Marketplace applications and plugins.

  • Experience with REST APIs and JSON.

  • Working knowledge of Python and/or Groovy scripting.

  • Experience troubleshooting complex Jira and Confluence issues in enterprise environments.

  • Experience supporting Atlassian environments across cloud and/or on-premises infrastructure.

  • Understanding of system integrations and upstream/downstream application impacts.

  • Experience working with Agile methodologies and software development lifecycle processes.

  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong organization, time management, prioritization, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Atlassian certification(s).

  • Experience with Grafana, Splunk, or other monitoring and reporting platforms.

  • Experience supporting Jira and Confluence integrations with other enterprise applications.

  • Experience supporting AWS-based environments.
