Gear Machining Tooling Engineer 

Overview / Summary

We are seeking a Gear Machining Tooling Engineer  focused on gear machining launch tooling. This role will work jointly with a headquarters launch team and suppliers to support the successful delivery of incoming manufacturing lines and achieve key business metrics for long-term success.

The role will support machining processes, tool development, manufacturing process improvement, quality launch activities, process audits, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support machining processes with tool development.
  • Support implementation of tool tracking.
  • Identify tool-dominant features and implement appropriate controls.
  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.
  • Complete PPAP quality launch documentation.
  • Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to establish and continuously improve manufacturing processes and products.
  • Develop action plans to investigate and prioritize open issues and verify corrective actions for internal and supplier processes.
  • Lead and conduct process audits to ensure consistent process discipline.
  • Create process and instruction sheets supporting quality methods and processes.
  • Deliver capable processes and tools for gear machining operations.
  • Lead variability reduction and lean manufacturing initiatives and best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with plant, corporate, governmental, and environmental standards.
  • Support ISO 14001 compliance and internal ISO auditing and compliance activities as required.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 5 years of relevant experience in CNC machining manufacturing.
  • Experience with tooling.
  • Experience with Computer Numerical Control (CNC).
  • Experience with CNC mills.
  • Experience in high-production machining tool manufacturing.
  • Experience with gear blade grinding.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Lean Six Sigma experience.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience.
  • Experience programming tool presetters, including Royal/Zoller.
  • Experience with 8D and 5 Why corrective action and problem-solving methodologies.
  • Experience with lean tools, including 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Experience with DMAIC and DMADV (DFSS) project methodologies.
  • Experience with FMEA, PPAP, and DOE.
