CAE Durability Engineer – Structural Analysis

Overview / Summary

We are seeking a CAE Structural Engineer to perform finite element-based studies to virtually validate vehicle structure components and sub-systems. This role supports engineering teams with design guidance and performance prediction, including CAE model development, analysis, validation, and correlation with physical testing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform finite element-based studies to virtually validate vehicle structure components and sub-systems.
  • Lead System Design Specification analysis, design development, and results documentation for exterior system components.
  • Create and modify finite element models to predict vehicle structure performance in accordance with established requirements and procedures.
  • Conduct CAE model audits.
  • Help develop new analytical capabilities to improve prediction and physical testing.
  • Participate in global forums and meetings to share technical information, procedures, and simulation methods.
  • Coordinate with Design and Release Engineers, CAE teams, Digital Innovation, suppliers, Vehicle Engineering, and Manufacturing to develop solutions using virtual simulations.
  • Produce and evaluate solutions to improve design quality and cost using specialized engineering knowledge.
  • Interpret CAE and physical test results and develop feasible countermeasures to meet system- and component-level requirements.
  • Correlate CAE models with physical test results.
  • Summarize and present technical work to cross-functional teams.
  • Balance theoretical approaches with practical limitations while maintaining accuracy and timeliness.
  • Identify and execute work at an appropriate level of detail.
  • Support multiple tasks and respond effectively to changing situations.
  • Work independently as well as collaboratively in a global environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Engineering degree or related discipline with coursework in Finite Element Methods.
  • Experience with CAE analysis.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with others.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, highly organized, and persistent.
  • Ability to summarize and present technical work to cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to balance theory with practical limitations.
  • Strong self-learning skills.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to assess problems and develop effective responses.
  • Leadership skills, including the ability to motivate, negotiate, and build consensus.
  • Ability to work remotely and in a global environment.
  • Fluent English communication skills, including oral and written communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with HyperMesh and CAD/meshing tools.
  • Good understanding of materials properties.
  • Knowledge of FEA theory and Structural CAE, Durability and/or Fatigue CAE Analysis.
  • Knowledge of Linear Static and Non-Linear Dynamic analyses, including impact finite element analyses.
  • Knowledge of meshing and post-processing software such as ANSA, HyperMesh, HyperView, and MetaPost.
  • 5+ years of experience with Abaqus, NCODE, Nastran, and/or other commercially available FEA programs for structural and fatigue analyses.
  • Knowledge of automotive product development and validation processes.
  • Knowledge of welds and fatigue theory.
  • Knowledge of statistical and optimization tools and techniques.
  • Ability to develop, create, or adapt novel analysis methods.
  • Evidence of technical excellence through technical presentations and reports.
  • Familiarity with Teamcenter and CATIA.
  • Programming skills in Python, MATLAB, C, C++, or other programming languages.
  • Master's or Ph.D. degree.
  • DFSS Green Belt or equivalent certification in statistical and optimization tools and techniques.

Work Arrangement

  • Hybrid work arrangement with 4 days per week in the office.
